Main Padgampora-Kakapora road macadamised
Locals thank administration, demand focus on interior roads
Pulwama: Residents of Padgampora and adjoining areas in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have expressed gratitude to the administration for the macadamisation of the main Padgampora-Kakapora road. However, they have simultaneously urged authorities to address the deteriorated condition of the village’s interior roads, which remain neglected.
The main road stretch between Padgampora and Kakapora had long been in a dilapidated state, riddled with potholes and posing challenges to commuters, especially during rainy days.
Locals say that the road holds strategic importance as it connects several areas of Awantipora with Pampore and Kakapora.
“This road is crucial for thousands of people commuting daily. Although a part of it was macadamised last year, a significant stretch remained untouched, causing hardship to residents,” said Javid Ahmad, a local resident.
While welcoming the recent roadwork on the main stretch, locals highlighted the poor state of the inner lanes of Padgampora. “The interior roads especially road leading to Peer Mohalla are waterlogged and damaged. Children, elderly people, and even emergency services struggle to navigate through these lanes,” said Syed Rashid, another resident.
Despite repeated appeals and assurances from concerned departments, locals allege that no tangible steps have been taken on the ground. “We’ve approached the authorities many times. They always assure us, but we are yet to see actual work start,” the residents said.
The villagers have now appealed to Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, and MLA Pulwama Waheed Ur Rehman Para to intervene and ensure the early repair and macadamisation of interior roads.
They have also thanked Deputy commissioner Dr Basharat Qayoom and AEE Abbas Ahmad for the macadamisation of the main road.
“The restoration of all roads, not just the main ones, is essential for the wellbeing of the population. We request immediate attention towards the interior roads.
