Youth’s mysterious death sparks protests in Tral-Aripal
Authorities assure probe, immediate relief
Pulwama: Tension gripped parts of south Kashmir’s Tral on Tuesday morning after the body of a youth was discovered under mysterious circumstances near his native village, triggering protests and demands for justice.
The deceased has been identified as Surjeet Singh, a young resident of Dharamgund area in Tral.
His body was found near the outskirts of the village, leading to widespread shock and suspicion among local residents who believe foul play may have been involved.
Soon after the news spread, dozens of villagers including Sikhs and Muslims poured onto the Tral-Aripal road, staging a protest and blocking traffic movement.
The agitated crowd alleged that Surjeet has been murdered and called for an immediate, impartial probe to uncover the truth behind the incident.
“We want justice for Surjeet. This is not a natural death. He was healthy and had no known issues. The administration must act,” said one protestor.
Responding promptly to the situation, senior officials including the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), and the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tral reached the spot and interacted with the protesters.
The officials assured the public that a thorough and transparent investigation would be initiated immediately.
“Every angle of the case will be looked into. Justice will be done,” one of the officials assured while addressing the gathering.
Following these assurances, the protesters peacefully dispersed, and the Tral-Aripal road was reopened to traffic, restoring normalcy to the area.
Meanwhile, the local administration has sanctioned an immediate relief of Rs 1 lakh to the bereaved family to support them during this tragic time.
“We stand with the family in their moment of grief. This is a tragic loss, and our heartfelt sympathies are with them,” said an official from the district administration.
A post-mortem has been conducted, and police say they are awaiting forensic and medical reports to ascertain the exact cause of death.
