Shimla: The Southwest Monsoon arrived in some parts of Himachal on Friday, and conditions are favourable for further advancement of monsoon over the remaining parts of the state during the next two days, the local Meteorological (Met) office said.

As a consequence, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rains is very likely over many parts of low hills, plains and adjoining mid-hills, and light to moderate rains over some parts of the high and adjoining mid-hills during June 20 to 25 with peak intensity between June 22 and 25, the forecast said.

Rains lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh, triggering landslides at several places. The traffic on the Dharamshala-Chataro-Gaggal road was halted due to a slide of a large mass of dirt and rocks from the mountains. Authorities are currently engaged in road-clearing operations, officials said.

Reports also emerged of water logging at the Shahid Inder Singh Middle School in Pandoh, which caused inconvenience for students.

The weather office issued an Orange warning for heavy to very heavy rains in isolated parts of the state on June 22, 23, 25 and 26 and a yellow warning for heavy rains in isolated areas on June 24.

Nahan received the highest rainfall in the state, measuring 84.7 mm, followed by Pandoh at 35 mm, Slapper at 26.3 mm, Sarahan at 20.5 mm, Poanta Sahib at 19.8 mm, Jogindernagar at 19 mm, Pachhad at 17.2 mm, Rampur at 15.6 mm, Gohar at 15 mm and Shimla at 12 mm.

Thunderstorms were witnessed in Sundernagar, Shimla and Kangra, while gusty winds with speeds of 37 kmph lashed Bajaura.

The Met centre has cautioned that heavy rains in the mid and lower hills can trigger landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas, cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, and partial damage to vulnerable structures, besides skidding of vehicles due to slippery roads and low visibility.

The day temperatures dropped by four to eight degrees at many places, and Una was the hottest in the state with a high of 33.6 degrees Celsius against 39 on Thursday. The minimum temperatures stayed above normal, and Kukumseri was the coldest, with a low of 12.3 degrees Celsius.
