Why take so much of time

We live at a place where we face challenges almost on daily basis. Challenges to manage our day to day affairs, challenges to manage the education of our children and challenges to survive through the hard realities of life every hour and every minute.
We have however, also managed to survive these challenges because we have most of the time resorted to adopting short term measures to come over these challenges and ensure our survival.
One such challenge that has been testing us off and on is the weather patterns in Kashmir. We have been observing that during winters we have been facing harsh cold days and nights and during summers we tend to fight the harsh hot weather conditions, and ironically this is becoming a reality that we no longer can ignore.
During all these testing weather conditions, we have thankfully learned to adapt to the situation and have been managing our survival albeit, with some difficulty and troubles as well.
However, there are instances where our survival and instincts face various road blocks which include the indifferent attitude of some authorities who could otherwise announce such measures which will make our survival easy and less troublesome.
Presently, Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a severe heat wave like conditions and this phenomenon is hitting the Jammu as well as Kashmir divisions alike. Even the Indian Meteorological Department had issued a ‘red alert’ for entire north India till Saturday and had advised citizens to restrict their movement during day time.
Health experts too had issued various advisories and asked people to remain hydrated and cover their heads while moving out of their homes. However, what has been worrying the people here is that no such measures are announced here so that the people could be protected from these natural challenges.
The major concern for the people across Jammu and Kashmir was to protect the school going children from such heat wave conditions and even voices were raised for announcing summer vacations, though much ahead of the scheduled dates.
The minister for Education here too issued a statement and assured the people that they are looking at it and the administration will take a decision accordingly. However, what we could feel was that the issue was not dealt according to the need.
Since the heatwave conditions were announced by IMD for mere three days, so a simple decision of closing schools for three days and holding classes online could have served the purpose and ensured that children are left protected in the safety of their homes.
One wonders why decisions as simple as these are avoided and children were left to manage the heat wave conditions on their own.
These simple and timely decisions could make lives of the people easier but it needs some efforts from the planners to make this happen. Hope next time such decisions are considered.
