Bagandar Tral residents demand bridge over nallah

Seek end their daily struggles
Pulwama: The residents of Bagandar in Satoora area of Tral sub-division in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have renewed their long-pending demand for the construction of a bridge over a local nallah, citing repeated hardships due to the lack of connectivity.
Locals said the absence of a permanent bridge has made life extremely difficult, especially for students and patients. Currently, a makeshift bridge is being used, which residents say gets washed away every summer, leaving the area disconnected.
Tanveer Ahmad, a local resident, voiced the community’s frustration, saying, “We are facing a lot of problems, especially during emergencies. Patients have to be carried on shoulders across the nallah, and during summers, students barely attend school because they can’t safely cross the stream.”
He added that several people have been injured in recent years while attempting to cross the nallah, yet the administration has not taken concrete steps to resolve the issue.
Residents said they have repeatedly approached government officials and departments to raise the demand for a bridge, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
Now, the people of Bagandar are pinning their hopes on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah, MLA Tral Rafiq Ahmad Naik and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to intervene and ensure that the bridge is constructed at the earliest.
“We request the concerned authorities to look into our issue with urgency so that we can finally heave a sigh of relief,” the residents said.
The demand for a permanent bridge is not just about infrastructure—it is a plea for safety, access to education, and basic human dignity, they said.
They added that locals have been taking part in every government programme and even voting every time and despite that area has been neglected.
