Work going on, turf to be completed in next two months: Official

Shopian- A state-of-the-art football stadium is under construction in Dragad Sugan in Chitragam Tehsil of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said Monday.
An official said that the stadium will be “mega” in scale and will feature a FIFA-certified synthetic football turf—providing year-round, all-weather playing conditions.
He said that once operational, the Dragad Chitragam stadium will be accessible to schools, clubs, and community groups free of charge.
The synthetic turf—certified by FIFA’s Quality Programme will meet international standards for shock absorption, durability, and traction, ensuring both player safety and high performance.
He further added that the drainage systems beneath the turf will allow uninterrupted play, even during Shopian’s heavy monsoon and winter snowfall.
He said that construction is going on with full speed and stadium will be completed by next two months.
Local athletes have expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting that high-quality sports facilities can offer constructive outlets for youth.
“Having a dedicated, synthetic-turf stadium in our own village will inspire local talent and keep youngsters engaged in healthy pursuits,” said one Shopian football coach, reflecting a wider hope that such developments will help divert youth from drug abuse and other social ills.
They thanked Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council for providing this stadium as there was no such stadium in the area.
With construction on schedule and government assurances that the stadium will open “very soon,” Dragad Chitragam is poised to become a new hub for football in south Kashmir—offering both competitive and recreational opportunities to a generation eager for modern sporting venues.
