Two years on, building sanctioned for Primary school in Pulwama yet to be completed

School continues to function from tin shed

Pulwama: The students of Chewa Kalan area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district continue to suffer as the school building sanctioned two years back is nowhere near completion.
The residents of Chewa Kalan said that super model middle school continues to function from a makeshift tin shed due to which students as well as teachers are suffering.
They said that the new building for school was sanctioned two years ago but work has remained stalled for several months now.
Zahoor Ahmad, a local resident said that students belonging to financially weaker families are studying in government schools due to which their issues aren’t being redressed properly.
He said that on one side government is claiming that facilitates in government schools have been upgraded well, but on ground the situation remains different.
Naveed Ahmad, another local resident said that they were happy after the new building was sanctioned but work on the building has been going on at snail’s pace.
He said that students and teaching have been suffering as it is not easy to study in a tin shed as the extreme cold and extreme heat conditions in tin sheds do not allow the student’s to study.
Locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but nothing has been done as of now.
They have requested higher ups to look into the matter and expedite the construction work so that school can be shifted to the new building and students and teachers can heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, an official of education department said that said that over 80 percent construction work has been completed and pending part will be completed in next one month.
He assured that school will be shifted to the new building after one month.
