Students suffer as GHSS Khiram faces staff shortage
Locals demand intervention of higher ups
Anantnag: Government Higher Secondary School Khiram is facing a severe staff crunch, which has significantly impacted the academic performance of its students, especially in the recently declared Class 10th and 12th board results.
Locals from Khiram area said that the results of the School were not upto the expectations but they can blame only the authorities who have failed to provide sufficient staff to the school.
They said that the institution has been grappling with an acute shortage of teachers, particularly in crucial subjects.
“Last academic year, the school operated without a mathematics teacher, a gap that still persists,” said Shabir Ahmad a local resident.
He said that the shortage has had a direct bearing on student outcomes, with this year’s results falling below expectations.
Zahoor Ahmad, another local said that the school lacks lecturers in essential subjects including English, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Mathematics, Functional English, Physical Education, and Urdu.
He said that there is a vacant position for a mathematics teacher at the secondary level and the school is also short of four staff members in key roles such as Masters, Physical Education Master (PEM), and Physical Education Teacher (PET).
Locals said that there are only those students studying who belong to financially weak families but there is no response from the government side.
They said that students and parents have voiced concern over the quality of education being compromised due to this long-standing issue repeatedly but nothing is being done in this regard.
They have once again sought the attention of higher ups especially Education Minister, Director Education and CEO Anantnag to intervene at an earliest.
“We have a hope that Director School Education Kashmir, G N Itoo, will take serious cognisance of the matter and instruct Chief Education Officer (CEO) Anantnag to submit a proposal to ensure the timely deployment of the required teaching staff at the school, the locals added.
