Macadam laid on Urbagh-Urchersoo road in Pulwama damaged within a year
Locals call for investigation
Pulwama: The late last year macadamised Urbagh-Urchersoo road in Pulwama district has developed significant wear and tear within just a year of its construction, triggering public outrage and prompting demands for a thorough investigation into the quality of the work.
Residents of the area expressed anger over the rapid deterioration of the road surface, which they say has not only become a cause of inconvenience but also a potential safety hazard for commuters.
Locals allege that substandard materials and poor execution are responsible for the early damage to the road that was supposed to last for several years.
“The macadamisation was completed barely a year ago, and already the road has started breaking up. Potholes are appearing, and the top layer has worn off in many stretches. This shows that the work was not done properly,” said Nisar Ahmad a local resident.
He said that matter must be investigated at an earliest and road must be remacadmised at an earliest.
Locals have also urged the district administration and concerned departments to initiate a formal probe into the matter.
“We want accountability. Public money is being wasted. Those responsible must be identified and action should be taken,” demanded another local.
Locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of concerned several times but they haven’t taken its cognizance.
They said that despite repeated complaints, authorities have yet to take concrete steps.
They said that macadamisation season is coming and it must be macadamised again at the spots at least where it has got damaged.
Meanwhile, an official of the R&B said that they have taken cognizance of the issue and have sought ground report in this regard.
He said that any further steps will be taken after getting the report from the field staff.
