Barbarism in Baisaran

Imagine hundreds of people who had come to enjoy the cool environs of Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley escaping the routine hustle and bustle in their stress filled lives. Imagine these very people not even envisioning that their loved ones who were moments ago sharing moments of joy with them will be gone forever.
The gruesome attack that was carried out on the Tuesday afternoon at a place which is known as ‘mini Switzerland’ was otherwise a cool and serene place where these tourists were enjoying nature and capturing the moments to save them as joyful moments for the rest of their lives.
However, their joy proved short-lived and the cherished moments turned into a nightmare as terrorists shovered bullets on the innocent civilians who even for first few moments could not even comprehend that the lives of their dear ones have been put to an end.
The barbaric attack that was carried out proves that the perpetuators had no human instincts but proved to be mere animals in terms of their concern and respect for human lives.
26 people fell to the terrorists bullets and among those few were local residents who had set up small facilities for the tourists at Baisaran. There are reports that one youth, a local resident of Pahalgam village tried to snatch the rifle of one of the attackers who however, overpowered him and shot him dead as well.
Kashmir is not new to this phenomenon where terrorists carry out attacks and harm security forces and civilians alike. But this time the target was innocent tourists who had come here to be part of the growth story Kashmir was experiencing since the past few years.
Over the past few years Kashmir had witnessed a relative calm atmosphere with youth saying good bye to protests and stone pelting and were openly participating in nation building besides being part and parcel of the development theme that was gaining popularity with every passing day.
The attack is a grim reminder that our neighbours seem uncomfortable with the very fact that youth and the people in general across Jammu and Kashmir have opted for peace and development rather than following the false narrative and propaganda of a country that has proven a failed state.
The very fact that people have realised the futility of violence and separatism has not been going well with Pakistan and they have been over the past two years trying to disrupt peace established in Kashmir after a gap of more than three decades.
The sinister design that the Pakistani establishment and its rouge agencies had in mind were proving a failure as the people here had come to realise the deceitful tactics they have adopted vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir over the past three decades.
The attack once again depicts their cruel and inhuman mind-set that we the people of Kashmir have to understand once and for all. The way people across Jammu and Kashmir expressed their anger and displayed solidarity with those innocents who were killed in cold blood shows that Pakistan also needs to learn its lesson and understand that the people of JK have been fooled for long enough and now their menacing tactics won’t work here.
The people’s reaction over the Baisaran killings is a clear message to Pakistan and its supported terror groups that people here want peace and no one stands with those who have no value for human lives and the principles of Islam.
