Pulwama: The residents of Wahibugh village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have been facing problems as their water supply line has gone defunct after cable laying operations were started in the area.
The residents of Wahibugh said that they have been left without water supply for the last two years now after a vital pipeline was damaged during cable-laying operations in the area.
They said that that locals are forced to consume contaminated water as they have no option other than to use water drawn from a local well which is contaminated.
Farooq Ahmad Reshie, a local resident said that some people are going for around one kilometre to fetch drinking water while water drawn from wells is being used for laundry and other day to day uses.
He said that several residents of the area have been facing problems but no attention is being given towards it.
The locals said that while officials carried out underground cable installation, a crucial water pipeline feeding several households was damaged, leaving at least many households completely disconnected from their regular water source.
The affected residents expressed deep concern over the inconvenience caused and sought attention of higher ups once again.
They urged the authorities to take immediate action and restore the damaged pipeline at the earliest.
“We appeal to the concerned department to visit the area and resolve this issue. Water is a basic necessity, and we should not have to suffer for a long time now due to the negligence of contractors,” they added.
Meanwhile, an official said that their pipeline is being restored and they will get supply restored soon.
