Pulwama residents demand repairing of vital Chakoora-Panzgam road
Pulwama: The Chakoora-Panzgam road in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is in a bad shape causing severe inconvenience to daily commuters and residents of the area, locals alleged Thursday.
Locals from Chakoora, Panzgam, Grawgund, and nearby villages expressed frustration over the dilapidated condition of the road as according to them the road hasn’t been repaired for the last several years now.
They said the road is riddled with potholes, making both driving and walking extremely difficult and unsafe.
“The road hasn’t been repaired or blacktopped for several years now,” said Gulzar Ahmad, a resident. “It is full of potholes, which are making life miserable for locals and travellers alike.”
Altaf Ahmad, another local said that it takes a long time to just cross few kilometres due to its bad condition.
He said that the government had started the work several times but it was later stopped due to unknown reasons.
Residents noted that a two-kilometre stretch of the road was marked for widening, but the work was abruptly halted and left incomplete, compounding the woes of the people.
“We have repeatedly approached the concerned authorities and requested immediate repairs, but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” the locals said.
The locals emphasized that despite raising the issue multiple times; no action has been taken so far.
They urged the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama and other authorities to intervene and ensure the road is repaired without further delay.
Meanwhile, an official acknowledged the issue and said that the widening process was facing hurdles due to opposition from some locals last year
“Efforts are underway to resolve the matter and begin the repair work soon,” the official added.
