Srinagar: The Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has framed a draft policy concerning setting up of Private Universities in the region.

The department says that following the approval from the concerned authorities, the policy will give an official nod for the establishment of private universities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Education Minister Sakina Itoo in a reply to the questions in Legislative Assembly on Thursday said, “Higher Education Department has framed a draft policy concerning setting up of Private Universities in Jammu & Kashmir.”

The minister further said that following approval from the competent authority, the policy will pave the way for the establishment of Private Universities in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

In the meantime, the minister while responding to the queries regarding establishing of satellite campus in the Ramban district through University of Jammu said, “At present, there is no proposal regarding the establishment of a Satellite Campus in the Ramban Constituency by the University of Jammu on the pattern of the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University”

The minister however said that a committee has been constituted to assess the feasibility of setting up an ‘Offsite Campus in Ramban District keeping in view the requirements.’

Presently Jammu and Kashmir have 11 Universities including ‘nine State Universities and two Central Universities.’ (KNO)
