Pulwama: The residents of Wagay Colony area of Gudoora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure in upgrading power infrastructure in the area.
The residents of the area said that a transformer has been installed in Eid Gah Mohalla catering to several villages is 15 years old and since then the population of the area has increased but power infrastructure hasn’t been upgraded.
They said these mohallas are spread over 2 sqkms with around 50 households and a single transformer isn’t enough to cater to the whole area.
Saqib Ahmad, a local resident said that in their village, Gudoora, a platform was installed for the transformer of Wagay Mohalla, Gudoora, five years back, however, the residents are still waiting for the transformer.
The existing transformer is under heavy load, causing some houses that are far from it, to receive an inadequate power supply, he said.
Moreover, new fuses have to be installed every day due to the excessive load, he added.
Locals said that authorities were resorting to frequent hikes in power usage which have added to the misery of the people.
“Ironically, no step is being taken to upgrade power infrastructure in the area,” the residents alleged.
Javid Ahmad, another local said there is a need for poles and transformer in the area so that they can get scheduled power with good voltage.
He said that the residents who are living far away from the transformer are getting supplies with very low voltage while the LT lines in the area were weak and can prove fatal anytime.
Locals said that this issue was brought to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They have sought attention of MLA Pulwama and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
