Pulwama: The residents of Tral hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have questioned the delay in the establishment of a 100 MVA grid station at Puch Ara Tral.
The residents said that their demand stems from the need to enhance the region’s electrical infrastructure to support both current and future energy requirements.
They said that government is resorting to unnecessary delay despite that acquisition of land has taken place long back.
Basharat Ahmad, a local resident said that establishment of 100 MVA grid station would reduce power outages and voltage fluctuations, leading to a more reliable electricity supply for households and businesses.
He said that a proposed grid station could attract new businesses and support existing ones, fostering economic growth in the region.
Junaid Ahmed, another local resident said that many areas in Tral area are facing unscheduled power cuts and with the establishment of a 100 MVA grid station, they will get rid of it.
He said that population is increasing with each passing day and there is need for upgrading power infrastructure as well.
Locals said that the process for the construction of the station was taken after repeated requests to the government but due to unknown reasons the government has been delaying its establishment.
The people have now sought the attention of MLA Tral and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
Meanwhile, an official of the power department said that the Construction of 100 MVA capacity Grid Station at Puch Ara, Tral is part of the transmission schemes and is being implemented in a phased manner, depending on load growth and technical feasibility.
“As per the current guidelines issued by the MoP/Tariff Policy, projects costing above the threshold limits set by JERC could be executed through the TBCB mode. Based on the JERC regulations (100 Crore fixed as the threshold limit) issued in this regard, it is being examined to determine the most suitable mode to be adopted for the said transmission project, and the decisions shall be taken in due course,” he said.
Meanwhile, State Land for the said project has been identified and the transfer of land in the favour of JKPTCL is underway, he added.
