Athletes demand reconstruction, action against erring officials

Pulwama: A newly constructed protection bund along a play field in Lurgam area of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has collapsed following which athletes have demanded its reconstruction.
The residents of Lurgam Tral said that the bund was constructed recently and it collapsed due to use of the sub-standard material.
Shabir Ahmad, a local Auqaf member said that the government spent lakhs of rupees for the construction of the bund but there was none to check the quality of material used during its construction.
He said that if there had been proper checking, the bund would have been constructed as per norms but that wasn’t done due to which it collapsed today.
Javid Ahmad, a local cricket player said that due to the collapse of the bund, athletes won’t be able to play here as the chances of getting injured have gone up.
He said that the development of playfields in today’s world is of utmost importance and this play field must be developed on modern lines so that youth can engage themselves in sports activities.
Locals said that the government must constitute a committee to investigate the cause of the collapse of the bund.
They demanded that action must be taken against the officials who allowed use of sub-standard material along with the contractor.
They have sought attention of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and BDO concerned in this regard.
Meanwhile, an official said that they have started an investigation in this regard and action will be taken if anyone is found involved in any kind of negligence
