Pesky power cuts annoy Wasoora Pulwama residents

Locals demand upgradation of power infrastructure
Pulwama: The residents of Wasoora area of Pulwama in south Kashmir have alleged that the power development department is supplying them unscheduled power due to which locals are facing hardships during the holy month of Ramadan.
The aggrieved residents said that with the tariff hike they were expecting fewer power cuts during the holy month but the situation has worsened in the area.
The residents claimed, the power scenario has gone worse in the past one week and they have been facing prolonged power cuts.
Riyaz Ahmad, a local resident said that they were getting good power supply for the last one month but due to unknown reasons the power department has started restoring to pesky cuts.
In the last three days, there was no electricity at Iftari or Sehri time due to which people suffer, he added.
Shazia Jan, another local resident said that they have been receiving power supply for just few hours in the last few days.
“We were expecting better power supply in Ramadan but instead the department has restored to old tactics of providing unscheduled power supply,” she said.
Locals said that power infrastructure in the area is very weak as trees and wooden poles have been used for LT line at some places which often get damaged due to overload and increased power consumption.
They said that the power department has failed to ensure proper power supply as per curtailment schedule, affecting them and students preparing for examinations as well.
The residents said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
The locals have also sought the attention of MLA concerned, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and PDD officials in this regard.
