Water level restored in famous Bulbul Spring in Newa Pulwama
Water supply to over 3 dozen villages being restored: Official
Pulwama: The residents of around three dozen villages heaved a sigh of relief as the water level was restored in the famous Bulbul spring in Newa area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district that has dried up during the long dry spell that hit the valley.
The residents of Newa and its adjacent areas said that several water supply schemes are dependent on the spring but it dried up around three months back due to which people of around three dozen villages suffered for the want of potable water.
Ghulam Hassan Wani, a local resident said that he has never witnessed drying up of the spring in his whole life but this year it dried up completely.
He said that the water level has now got restored due to the recent rains and they are hopeful that now the water supply will be restored soon.
Nisar Ahmad, another local resident of the area said that people of the area have been suffering for want of the water as the spring was the only water source for many supply schemes.
He said that this is for the first time that spring has fully dried up that has caused immense inconvenience to the locals.
He, however, expressed happiness after water level was restored in the spring after three months and prayed for more rains.
Locals said that there is an immediate need for a well that will act as an alternate source of water if such situation arises in future.
They said that the ground water department had already visited the spot for construction of the well even as land was identified; however, work wasn’t taken up.
They requested authorities to keep the well ready as an alternative so that people won’t suffer at any cost.
Meanwhile, an official of the PHE department said that due to rains water level has got restored in the spring and water supply to all villagers dependent on the spring is being restored.
