Illegal extraction of minerals: Police seize eight vehicles in north Kashmir’s Handwara
Srinagar: Police seized eight vehicles involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in north Kashmir’s Handwara, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
He said that a police team seized four tippers and three tractors, while a team at Chogul seized one tipper engaged in illegal mineral extraction. The vehicles were challaned under relevant sections of the MMRD Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the owners and drivers.
This operation, conducted in collaboration with the Geology and Mining Department, is part of a sustained effort to dismantle illegal mining networks and protect the region’s natural resources. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to combating illegal mineral extraction, which threatens the environment and poses significant health risks to local communities, the spokesman added.
