Police arrests man involved in ATM fraud

Srinagar, Feb 14: Police on Friday said that it has apprehended an accused involved in an ATM card swapping fraud in Srinagar.
A police spokesman said that on February 12, Police received a complaint from a woman identified as Shaheena wife of Zahoor Ahmad Najar resident of Kupwara, stating therein that she along with her daughter, had visited Dental College, Shreen Bagh, for a dental check-up. While using an ATM located within the complex, an unknown individual inside the booth deceptively swapped her ATM card and subsequently withdrew ₹40,000 from her account.
The police spokesman further stated that acting promptly, a case FIR No. 14/2025 U/S 318(4), 305 BNS was registered in Police Station Safakadal and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, a team was constituted. After strenuous efforts and with the help of technical input and analysis of CCTV footage from the ATM, it led to the identification of the suspect as Burhan Rah son of Ghulam Mohidin Rah resident of Bonpora, Nowgam. The accused person has been subsequently arrested, and multiple ATM cards were recovered from his possession, he said.
Further investigation is going on to ascertain the involvement of the accused person in other similar fraudulent activities. More recoveries are expected, added.
