Kanigam Pulwama residents allege shortage of drinking water

Despite being part of Pulwama district, village kept under Chadoora PHE division, say locals
Pulwama: The residents of Kanigam-a village falling on the boundary of Pulwama and Budgam districts has been suffering due to shortage of drinking water in the area.
The residents alleged that they are without drinking water supply for the last three months but there is no one to take care of the issue.
Zakir Ahmad, a local resident said that the area has been facing severe drinking water crisis for the past three months due to which people are forced to consume contaminated water
Despite belonging to Pulwama district, our village has been placed under the jurisdiction of the Chadoora PHE Department, which has failed to ensure an adequate water supply, he said.
Several years ago, water pipes were installed in our village, but they were never connected to the main supply line, said Basharat Ahmad another local resident.
Being part of the Kandi belt, we lack alternative sources of drinking water, making our situation even more critical, he added.
The lack of a proper water supply has significantly impacted our daily lives and well-being, he added.
Locals said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but no attention is being given towards it.
They requested higher ups to ensure immediate access to drinking water for the residents and transfer of Kanigam village to the PHE Division Pulwama, as the current jurisdiction under the PHE Chadoora has failed to provide basic water facilities, making their lives extremely difficult.
They have sought the attention of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
