Pulwama: The residents of Khanqah village in Awantipora are up in arms against the administration alleging lack of development in their area.
They said that interior roads in the area are in dilapidated condition even as the area falls close to Jammu-Srinagar National highway.
The locals alleged that the area has been denied any development since decades as no attention is being provided towards the area.
They said water pipes in the area were laid around 10 years ago but water supply is yet to reach most of the households.
“Dozens of households in the area don’t have any access to drinking water facilities,” Mohammad Sultan Kumar, a local resident said.
He said that a playfield was sanctioned in their area around 20 years back but no work was carried out so far due to which local athletes have been suffering.
Ali Mohammad Dar, another local said that the area is being kept devoid of facilities since decades and the people have been raising their demand for better development in the area.
He said that locals intimated concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
The locals alleged that despite attending Gram Sabhas and registering all works under priority basis, nothing is being done on ground.
The locals said that it must be investigated as to why no works were carried out in their area by the Rural Development Department.
“We have brought these issues into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” the locals added.
The people have now sought the attention of MLA concerned and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard
