Steep rise in stray dogs scares Wasoora Pulwama residents
Canines being transported from Urban areas during night, allege locals
Pulwama: The surge in stray dogs in Wasoora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has become a cause of grave concern for inhabitants of the area.
The residents of the area said that the problem has assumed a serious dimension with concerned authorities turning a deaf ear to the public outcry.
Bashir Ahmad, a local resident said that every time packs of dogs can be seen on roads causing inconvenience to the general public, mainly school going children.
He said that increasing numbers of these stray dogs are posing a grave threat to the life of people and the movement of people, especially children, elders and women as it has become difficult for them, to move around during morning and evening hours.
Shaziya Akhter, a local woman said that children in Wasoora are unable to move freely due to the fear of the dogs.
She said that elders have to accompany children to take them to tuitions and bring back.
She said that even elder people face fear in visiting their farms land as many people were attacked by stray dogs in the area recently.
People alleged that the mysterious rise in dog population was due to their transportation from urban areas during night hours.
They said that matter must be investigated as how there is such a steep rise in number of stray dogs in the area as there is no one in the area to take care of the issue.
“We brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail”, they said.
They once again requested authorities especially MLA concerned and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to address the problem at an earliest so that locals won’t suffer anymore.
