Donipora Sangam resident’s demand potable water supply
Anantnag: A village in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district located on national highway has not been provided drinking water facility even today, locals alleged Saturday.
The residents of Donipora area said that despite living along national highway, they are yet to get drinking water facility.
“We are being deprived of the basic necessity at a time when people in other parts of the world enjoy all modern facilities. Thousands of residents are made to suffer on daily basis,” said Pamposh Ahmad, a local resident.
“Aren’t we humans and don’t we deserve to get the basic facility like water, he said, adding that despite repeated pleas by the villagers to concerned department, authorities have failed to mitigate the problem.
“We are forced to consume contaminated water from a stream due to which children and elderly persons often remain ill,” said Farooq Ahmad Bhat, another local resident.
The villagers said that whenever they approach the authorities from the PHE with their problem, they assure them to address the problem nothing is done on the ground.
The locals said that they wonder that why the village located on the all-important national highway and is just 2 kms from PHE division Bijbehara, has been left without water supply.
When authorities have failed to install water supply scheme here what will be the condition of far flung areas, they added.
Whenever there are elections, all political parties come here and promise that the area will get water supply but once elections are over nobody comes here to see whether the locals did get some relief or not.
They said that despite bringing this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times nothing has been done as of now.
They have once again sought the attention of MLA Bijbehara and Deputy Commissioner Anantnag in this regard.
