Police books notorious drug peddler under PIT-NDPS Act in Shopian
Two peddlers held at Baramulla and Handwara
Srinagar:: Police in Shopian booked a notorious drug peddler under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS) after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority. Meanwhile, two drug peddlers were arrested from Baramulla and Handwara, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
He said that the notorious drug peddler namely Manzoor Ahmad Reshi son of Abdul Rasheed Reshi resident of Wachi Reshi Mohalla Shopian has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kothbalwal Jammu.
The aforementioned drug peddler is a habitual offender, involved in Case FIR No. 08/2023 of Police Station Bijbehara and 36/2023 of Police Station Zainapora. Despite having been bound down under preventive measures repeatedly, Manzoor Reshi persisted with his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, posing a grave threat to the society, especially the youth, the spokesman added.
Known for his notoriety as a chronic miscreant and drug peddler, the accused person has been actively engaged in illegal drug trafficking and creating public nuisances. He is a key figure in the narcotics trade, procuring drugs from various sources and selling them at higher prices, primarily targeting the youth of Zainapora, he said.
Meanwhile, police arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, the spokesman said.
He said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Hundi Nowshera intercepted one suspicious person. During search, 10 grams of Heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Malik Sajad son of Nazir Ahmad resident of Pandithpora. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Similarly in Handwara, a police party at a checkpoint established at Qalamabad Chowk, intercepted a suspicious person. During search, 25 grams of contraband Charas-like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and has been identified as Javid Ahmad War son of Ghulam Nabi War resident of Lach Mawar.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
