Macadam on vital SIDCO Lassipora road didn’t last even for six months, allege locals

Pulwama: The macadamisation carried out on the vital SIDCO Lassipora road which was laid in month of September last year has got damaged which raises questions over the material on used to build the road.
Locals from Lassipora and its adjacent areas along with industrialists on Tuesday alleged that macadam laid on the road didn’t last even for six months.
They said that soon after the macadamisation the road did not last long and at multiple spots grooves surfaced all over the surface.
They said that conditions of the road at several spots reflects that the road has never been maintained or rebuild.
Bashir Ahmad, a local resident said that the road connects different areas of Pulwama and Shopian with each other through SIDCO.
The road is again in very dilapidated condition and is giving very tough time to the commuters as well the commuters using the road ink.
The locals said that government must investigate the matter and check whether any substandard material was laid on the road and if that is the case, the guilty should be made accountable and punished.
They said that the matter must be investigated and action must be taken against the officials involved in such negligence
They accused PMGSY for using substandard materials due to which the blacktopping suffered erosion in no time.
“The contractor used only three inches deep metal toping instead of five inches that is why it has developed cracks and is lying in dilapidated condition,” the locals said.
They added that this is a vital road on which thousands of vehicles ply each day.
The residents of the area appealed to higher ups of PMGSY department to look into the matter and take erring officials and contactor to task.
They have sought the attention of MLA concerned and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
