Truck driver from Shopian wins silver medal in Arm wrestling championship

Shopian: A truck driver from south Kashmir’s Shopian district has won a silver medal in an army wrestling championship held at Srinagar.
Faheem Ahmad Chek (28) a resident of Nowgam in the Vehil area of Shopian district won the silver medal at Indoor stadium Srinagar where players from different states took part in the competition.
Faheem Ahmad Chek said that he registered himself for this competition after he came to know about it through his friend in Shopian.
He said that despite driving a truck he is fond of sports activities that help him to stay physically sound.
While taking part in a competition in Srinagar, I bagged a silver medal in the competition that gave me lot of encouragement and hope,” he said.
Faheem was facilitated by SSP Shopian Anayat Ali Chowdhury and other officers of the district for his achievement.
Faheem said that Kashmir is grappling with drug menace and engaging the young generation in sports activities is of utmost importance.
He said that youth in J&K are very talented and can prove their mettle in any field
He said that in last few years sports infrastructure has been developed further that has helped young people to practice well and prove their mettle at mega stages.
He said that there is a need to engage more youth in sports activities so as to keep them away from drug and other anti-social activities.
