Bhat Seeks Urgent Action to Resolve Essential Service Disruptions in Bandipora
Bandipora: MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat has urged essential service departments, including the Power Development Department (PDD), Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Health Department to prioritize public welfare and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of critical services during the ongoing harsh winter season.
Expressing concern over the mounting hardships faced by residents, Bhat underlined the urgent need to maintain the minimum required levels of electricity and water supply to mitigate public distress.
Bhat highlighted several grievances, including the non-functional state of most streetlights in Bandipora town which he described as a major inconvenience for residents.
He also criticized delays in the disbursement of PMAY Urban bills and inefficiencies in updating ration cards across the constituency, urging immediate action to address these issues.
Focusing on electricity-related problems, Bhat noted that two localities in Naidkhai, Bandipora, have been without power for weeks due to delays in replacing damaged transformers.
He stressed the urgent need for upgrading and creating new substations in Naidkhai Block to improve power distribution.He also expressed disappointment over the erratic electricity supply in the Arin Block and the unresolved power issues affecting the health center in Dardpora, despite repeated discussions during review meetings.Bhat further noted widespread complaints regarding unnecessary power cuts across the constituency, calling for a thorough review of power management practices.
Turning to water supply issues, Bhat condemned the negligence that has caused severe disruptions.He cited the delayed repairs on the Zangair Canal which have left many villages without adequate water supply. Additionally, he highlighted a recent contamination incident in Aloosa, where a decaying wild animal in the water source posed serious health risks.
Bhat stressed the need for immediate upgrading of the aging Aloosa water supply scheme and highlighted the deteriorating condition of its existing service reservoir and pipe network under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Bhat criticized the lack of accountability from the concerned departments, demanding explanations for their lapses. He urged the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to take swift action to address these pressing issues. Despite multiple review meetings and assurances from officials, the disruptions in essential services continue to cause immense inconvenience to the public, he said.
MLA Bhat warned that persistent negligence could lead to widespread distress among residents and damage the administration’s reputation. He called for immediate and effective measures to restore public confidence and ensure the smooth functioning of essential services during this challenging winter season.
