Reshipora Awantipora residents demand availability of potable water
Pulwama: The Public Health Engineering (PHE) department is supplying contaminated water in Reshipora Ullar area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, locals alleged Tuesday.
The residents of the area said that they were first getting water from Renzipora Water Supply Scheme and later from Dogripora Water Scheme and quality of water was good though flow was very low.
They said that after repeated requests to the government a water supply scheme was constructed in the area and it was commissioned last year only but water supplied through this scheme is highly contaminated.
Zameer Ahmad, a local resident said that currently the source of water is a deep bore well but water coming out is very impure and not good for consumption.
He said that the after checking it in the laboratory, the iron level in the water was seen very high.
By using this water, many people in the area have fallen ill, he said.
Masrat Jan, a local woman said that they were getting good quality of water from other schemes but the water being provided from the local scheme isn’t good for consumption.
The locals said that even tanker service is provided to the area once a week and locals are getting water from it for drinking purposes while water of the local scheme is being used for other purposes.
They said that filtration plant of the scheme isn’t working from last one week due to which they are suffering.
Locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of concerned authorities several times but nothing has been done in this regard.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals won’t suffer any more.
