Sgr admin asks departments to stay prepared
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is likely witness a three-day wet spell from Saturday, MeT officials said here.
“Moderate to strong WD is expected and under its influence, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in plains of Jammu and snow at most places of J&K with peak activity during 4th (Night) to 5th (late Night) and 6th morning and improvement from the afternoon,” Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said.
He added that generally cloudy and dry weather is expected on January 7-10, adding that from January 11-12th, generally cloudy weather is expected with possibility of light snow at isolated places.
According to him, the weather is expected to remain generally dry from January 13 to 15.
In its advisory, the MeT has said that in view of fresh snowfall, sub-freezing temperature & icy conditions over roads in plains and higher reaches, the tourists, travelers and transporters are advised to plan accordingly & follow administration and traffic advisory.
“There is a possibility of heavy snow at isolated higher reaches during 4th night to 5th late night,” the advisory reads.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the snowfall forecast over the weekend, authorities have asked the departments to keep the men and machinery ready.
The office of the District Magistrate Srinagar in a orderurged residents to follow safety guidelines issued by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and avoid unnecessary travel during the adverse weather conditions to ensure their safety and prevent disruptions.
It said that in view of the forecast, the Mechanical Engineering Department (MH&ED), Public Works Department (PWD), Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Jal Shakti, and Health & Medical Education departments have been directed to remain prepared for snow clearance and related works.
The order said that the field staff of these departments has been instructed to stay at their respective headquarters to provide immediate assistance as and when required.
“The administration has also shared emergency contact numbers for the public to reach out in case of any need, and the contact number as District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC): 0194-2483651, 0194-2457552, 0194-2457543, MH&ED: 0194-2497458, Srinagar Municipal Corporation: 0194-2470466, R&B, Rajbagh: 0194-2313751, Traffic Department: 0194-2450022, Fire & Emergency Control Room: 0194-2453224 and Animal Husbandry Control Room: 0194-2956201.
The authorities have advised people to remain cautious, follow weather updates, and take necessary precautions to avoid any untoward incidents during the expected snowfall.
