Pinglena Pulwama residents demand potable water supply
Pulwama: The residents of Pinglena area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department which according to locals has failed to provide drinking water facility to the area for the last one month.
The residents of Astan Mohalla Pinglena said that they are suffering in absence of potable water facilities for the last one month.
They said that due to unknown reasons, the water supply has been stopped and they are forced to rely on consuming contaminated water.
In absence of any drinking water facility, we are forced to drink contaminated water of the canal due to which water borne diseases can break out any time in the area, they said.
They said that they have to walk several kilometers to fetch drinking water and that too is contaminated.
Waqar Ahmad, a local resident said that the area is connected with a scheme and they were getting water supply but due to unknown reasons it has got disrupted.
He said that officials have been claiming that it is because of the frozen pipes but they should have cleared it on time.
Locals from the area said that they have repeatedly brought the issue in notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They said that concerned authorities haven’t taken their pleas seriously and have been ignoring their pleas every time.
They have sought attention of MLA Pulwama and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer PHE Nisar Ahmad said that he has already directed concerned officials to look into the matter and restore the supply as soon as possible.
