Tiken Pulwama residents protest against proposed railway line
Demand intervention of higher ups
Pulwama: The residents of Tiken village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district protested on Wednesday against the proposed railway line in the area.
The residents of the area said that the government must either shift the proposed railway line or shouldn’t construct it as the project will leave hundreds of families landless.
Ghulam Mohammad, a local resident that government has proposed a railway line from Kakapora to Shopian and it is going through their precious orchard land on which they are dependent for their livelihood.
He said that villagers already have very small land holdings and if a railway is constructed here that will leave the whole village landless.
He said that at a time when unemployment is at peak, it seems government is working to snatch livelihood of more people.
Abdul Jabbar Dar, another local said that most of the people in the village are dependent on the horticulture land for their livelihood and if the railway line will be constructed, it will snatch their livelihood and they will die of starvation.
He said they don’t need such projects that will snatch their livelihood and even many people will become homeless as well.
The locals meanwhile said that before taking such projects the government must take local people into confidence.
They have further demanded intervention of CM Omar Abdullah and MLA concerned.
