Importance of Pahari Language and Literature

Language is the soul of culture, and literature is the heart that preserves its heritage. The Pahari language, spoken by a significant population in Jammu and Kashmir, holds immense cultural, historical, and linguistic value. Its inclusion in the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) curriculum is a vital step toward preserving the rich heritage of the Pahari-speaking community.
Preserving Cultural Identity
Pahari is more than just a language; it is the custodian of centuries-old traditions, folklore, and oral history. It reflects the ethos, struggles, and aspirations of the Pahari-speaking community. Including Pahari language and literature in school curricula ensures that younger generations remain connected to their roots. It also provides an academic platform to document and celebrate the culture, which might otherwise fade into oblivion in the face of globalization.
Empowering the Pahari-Speaking Community
The recognition of Pahari as a medium of education is a step toward social inclusion. For a long time, the Pahari-speaking population has been underrepresented in educational and cultural policies.
