Police Books three drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act
Drug peddlers also held from other areas
Srinagar: As a part of its sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety, Police in Anantnag booked three notorious drug smugglers under PIT NDPS Act, while a habitual fraudster has been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that the three notorious drug smugglers identified as Zubair Ahmad Ganie son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganie resident of Gund Bagh Seer Hamdan (involved in case FIR No. 04/2024 under NDPS Act at PS Mattan), Bashir Ahmad Khan son of Mohammad Yousuf Khan resident of Gopalpora Mattan (implicated in case FIR No. 89/2024 under NDPS Act at PS Mattan) and Sartaj Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat resident of Tulkhan Bijbehara (involved in case FIR No. 14/2024 under NDPS Act at PS Bijbehara) have been booked under PIT NDPS Act.
Additionally, Police in Anantnag also detained a notorious fraudster identified as Bilal Ahmad Lone alias Dr. Bilal, son of Mohammad Akbar Lone resident of Maratgam, Handwara under the PSA. Known for his involvement in multiple fraudulent activities, Bilal Ahmad Lone has caused significant public distress.
Meanwhile, police arrested three drug peddlers in Srinagar and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
During patrolling by team on link road between Bemina and Ibrahim Colony, a vehicle bearing registration number MH02ER/9763 (Etios) parked under suspicious circumstances by the road side was noticed.
Upon approaching the vehicle, two persons on board attempted to flee, but were apprehended tactfully by the police team. During search, 7.10gms of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession. The two persons disclosed their identity as Syed Athar Rafi son of Syed Rafi Ahmed resident of Dehraman Soibugh Badgam A/P Usmania Colony Bemina and Waseem Ahmed Rather son of Mohammad Ashraf Rather resident of Hamdaniya colony Bemina, the spokesman added.
In this connection, a case FIR No 81/24 under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Bemina and investigation has been taken up. Both the accused persons have been arrested and vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Meanwhile, in Kulgam a police party at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Byepass-NHW intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag. During search, 4 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in the said bag was recovered. He has been identified as Raj Kumar son of Meer Chand resident of Batote Ramban and was subsequently arrested on the spot. Accordingly, a case vide FIR no 109/2024 under section 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Qaimoh and investigation has been taken up.
Police also arrested drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police party at a checkpoint established at Parihaspora-Diwer Crossing Pattan, intercepted one person who has been identified as Syed Akhter Shah son of Syed Mustafa Shah resident of Diwer Pattan. During search, 5.95 grams of contraband Heroin-like substances has been recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, the spokesman added.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation has been initiated, he said.
