NRLM helps Awantipora woman to earn livelihood by starting her venture

Pulwama: A woman from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has been earning her livelihood through her readymade shop which she started with the help of NRLM.
Shazia Rashid (27) wife of Rameez Raja a resident of Barsoo area of Awantipora has been running a readymade shop in her locality to earn her livelihood.
Shazia Rashid, said that after getting married in Barsoo, she came to know about the Self Help Groups of NRLM and she instantly joined it.
After working with the group for some time, I got a loan of Rs 1 lakh and started a readymade shop in her locality, she said.
After running the shop for some time she found that there is a good demand for readymade garments and she extended her business by taking a loan of Rs 2 lakh more.
“After taking more loan, I extended my business and added more items for the consumers and I am earning my livelihood very well,” she said.
“I have already cleared my loan and currently I am earning livelihood very well and the credit for it goes to NRLM that has made me financially independent,” she added.
‘I request everyone to join SHGs or take benefit of other government schemes to start units at a small level and that will help you to be financially independent,” she said
Shazia said that joining an SHG is a better option for the women folk as they can continue their work at their home and start small units to stand on their own legs and to become financially independent.
Notably, Self-Help Groups have proven to be an effective mechanism for poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment.
Through their collective strength, SHGs have provided access to finance, built livelihood opportunities, and fostered social inclusion for continued success of women.
