Police books seven notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act

Srinagar: Police booked seven notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam and Awantipora, a police spokesman said Saturday.
He said that these notorious drug peddlers identified as Nisar Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Salam Mir resident of Mohdpora Kulgam, Manzoor Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Samad Mir resident of Tengbal Kulgam and Hilal Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir resident of Bungam Okey, have been detained under ‘The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropoc Substances Act,1988’ through orders issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and have been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu.
Meanwhile in Awantipora, the four notorious drug peddlers identified as Aadil Ahmad Bhat @Taigoo son of Abdul Majeed Bhat  resident of Tulbagh Pampore, Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar resident of Panzgam Awantipora, Yawar Yousuf  Sofi  son of Mohammad Yousuf Sofi resident of Kadlabal Pampore and Feroze Ahmad Chopan son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Larow Jagir Tral, have been booked under PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority and subsequently lodged in District Jail Jammu and Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu. Many cases are registered against these drug peddlers and they were involved in promoting drug trade by supplying drugs to youth of Police District Awantipora, the spokesman added.
Elsewhere, police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession in Pulwama.
The police spokesman said that acting on leads that surfaced during the ongoing investigation of case FIR No. 87/2024 under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Litter, a drug peddler identified as Mohammad Shamim Wani son of Abdul Majeed Wani resident of Astanpora, was arrested and 15.50 grams of a Brown Sugar was recovered from his possession.
Notably, during the investigation conducted so far in the instant case, one drug peddler identified as Yawar Ahmad Mir Son of Abdul Hamid Mir resident of Melhoura was already arrested on 26/11/2024 and 10.58 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from his possession. In order to ascertain the backward/forward linkages, the accused Yawar Ahmad Mir was put to sustained questioning wherein he revealed the role of Mohammad Shamim Wani of Astanpora in drug trafficking in the area.
Investigations revealed that the co-accused Mohammad Shamim Wani was using his motorcycle, bearing registration number JK13F-0571, to transport the illicit drug and accordingly it has also been seized in the instant case. Further investigation of the case is going on, the spokesman added.
