Power Woes: High-powered panel on Ladakh to meet today
17-member delegation to meet GoI representatives
Srinagar: A high-powered committee constituted by the Government of India (GoI) would meet on Tuesday afternoon in New Delhi to discuss safeguards for Ladakh Union Territory.
The high-powered panel, comprising representatives of Government of India and leadership of Ladakh, would meet tomorrow at 5: 00 PM in the North Block, New Delhi.
Former minister and leader of Apex Body Leh(ABL) Chering Dorjay said a 17 –member delegation comprising seven representatives each of Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and ABL, two chief executive councillors and Member Parliament, Ladakh would tomorrow meet representatives of the Union Government of India to discuss demands of people of Ladakh.
He said they would raise their four-point agenda during the meeting. “We are hopeful about a positive outcome from the talks,” he said.
Both ABL and KDA are seeking statehood for Ladakh, safeguards under Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India , establishment of a Public Service Commission (PSC) and two Lok Sabha seats—one each for Leh and Kargil districts.
So far, nine rounds of talks have been held between New Delhi and leaders from Ladakh after carving out of Ladakh as a UT. The last such meeting was held on March 4. (KNO)
