Waghama residents concerned over ‘unsafe’ bridge
Demand intervention of MLA, Dr Veeri
Bijbehara: The residents of Waghama area of Bijbehara hamlet in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are concerned over an ‘unsafe bridge’ in the area.
The residents of the area said that an unsafe bridge poses a significant risk as crossing it endangers the lives of commuters.
Ghulam Mohiudin, a local resident said that the bridge was constructed around 12 years back but now it is lying in very bad condition.
He said that authorities had declared it unsafe for the heavy motor vehicles long back but it is still being used for commuting and other purposes.
Sameer Ahmad, another local said that even after government’s directions, heavy motor vehicles including loaded trucks, tippers and other vehicles are using the same bridge.
He said that this bridge can collapse anytime and can prove very fatal.
The locals said that authorities had erected a board at the site where they had mentioned that the bridge is unsafe for heavy vehicles but no steps to put the orders into practice.
They said that dozens of heavy motor vehicles are crossing the bridge every day and night that increases the risk of accident on the bridge.
They said that they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They have sought the attention of MLA Bijbehara Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri and other officers in this regard.
