Dangling electric wires, decaying electric poles pose threat to Shopian residents: Locals allege
Shopian: Dangling electric wires tied with trees, old poles are posing grave threat to the lives of people as well as to their property in Bandpawa, Thokerpora Gunddarvesh villages in Chittragam hamlet of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, locals alleged Wednesday.
The residents of these areas alleged that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires tied with trees in their villages since decades but no attention is being given towards improving the power infrastructure.
They said that the electric lines touch roofs of houses and trees on roads posing risk to life and property.
“We have been requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas fell on deaf ears, said Farooq Ahmad, a resident of Bandpawa.
He said that during the ‘back to village programmes’ held by the local administration locals demanded electric poles and wires in the area, and the same was approved but on ground nothing has been done.
“All low tension wires in our village have been tied with trees in absence of poles due to which the wires are very low and the wires are very weak which often get damaged,” said Mohammed Ramzan, another resident of Thokerpora.
He added that they have taken up the issue with the administration several times, but so far no cognisance has been taken.
Despite hiking the tarrif and paying fee on time, no attention is being given towards our issue, they said.
