Conference on ‘Hypertension & Co Morbidities held at JVC, SKIMS Bemina

Conference witnessed presence of senior medical professional from many states
Srinagar: A daylong conference under the continued medical education (CME), program organised by the department of General Medicine SKIMS Medical College Srinagar, was held here on Monday.
The programme titled ‘Hypertension & Co morbidities: An update’ provided insights on the topic from renowned experts in cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and gynaecology.
The daylong CME held at the auditorium hall at JVC, SKIMS Bemina offered updates to the medical professionals on the latest guidelines, diagnostic techniques, and treatment strategies for hypertension, emphasizing the importance of effective management in co-morbid conditions.
Providing updates on recent clinical trials and research findings on hypertension and its management, many experts from other states also presented their papers providing fresh insights on the treatment and management of the disease.
At the onset, Dr Pravin Kalvit, Senior Consultant and Physician Kalvit Hospital, Chattisgarh presented his paper on ‘Digitising Blood Pressure’. The session was chaired by Prof Khalid Mohiuddin and Prof Ishrat Hussain Dar.
Later Prof SN Narasingan, Vice President ‘World Hypertension League’ presented his findings on ‘Resistant Hypertension: Challenges and future ahead’.
While delivering his speech Prof SN Narasingan stressed on the use of combination of drugs to control and manage hypertension.
He cautioned that mono-therapy in hypertension should only be used for very elderly and fragile patients.
The speech delivered by Prof SN Narasingan generated a discussion on the subject with delegates and senior physicians from Kashmir exchanges their views and ideas on the management of hypertension.
Dr. Tajammul Hussain, HOD Nephrology, SSH Srinagar stressed on improving the methods used in treatment of hypertension. He said that new management perspectives regarding hypertension should be put into vogue.
In another session Dr. Ashish Saxena, Associated Director Internal Medicine, SPS Hospital Ludhiana presented his paper on ‘Hypertension Crisis: Defusing the time bomb’.
Dr. Narsingh Verma, principal and Dean HIND Medical Institute, Indian Society of Hypertension presented his paper on ‘Hypertension Diagnosis and Monitoring’.
Prof. Anuj Maheshwari, Secretary General, Indian Society of Hypertension presented a paper on ‘Hypertension and Diabetes’.
Interestingly, the presentations were followed by interactive sessions and case discussions with many delegates and participants displaying a keen interest on the findings and treatments that have gained ground while dealing with the hypertension and its management.
Later, Prof. Muzafar Maqsood, Dept of Nephrology, SKIMS, Soura presented his paper on ‘Hypertension in CKD: Myths and Reality.
In the post lunch session Prof. Ravouf Asmi, HOD, Dept of Nephrology, SKIMS, Soura presented his paper on ‘Hypertension in Stroke: What lies behind the scene’.
The concluding session saw presentation of a paper by Dr. Divya Saxena, Director, Internal Medicine, Saxena Hospital Sonipath.
She presented her paper on ‘Hypertension in Pregnancy: The shifting Paradigm’.
