Sopore: A book launch ceremony was organized by Civil Society Sopore in collaboration with Government Degree College Sopore on Saturday to unveil the thought-provoking book, titled “Blame Game” A Stark Reality of Substance Abuse in Sopore, authored by Mehvish Rafiqa Firdous.
The event commenced with the Chairman of Civil Society Sopore, Aashiq Hussain Zaki, extending a warm welcome to the esteemed guests and providing a brief introduction to the book.
In his address, Zaki highlighted the pressing issue of substance abuse in Sopore and underscored the community-based initiatives previously adopted by the Civil Society Sopore to tackle this challenge. He assured that these programs would soon be reinitiated to address this menace effectively.
Mehvish Rafiqa Firdous, the author of the book, shared insights into her journey of writing the research-based book. She candidly spoke about the challenges she encountered during her research and stressed the importance of collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders to avoid engaging in the “blame game” and instead contribute constructively to combating substance abuse.
SP Sopore, Diya Dev, recounted her personal struggles and reiterated the police department’s unwavering commitment to the fight against drug abuse. She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in eradicating this social evil.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, S.A Raina, in his speech, lauded the author for her exceptional research work and encouraged her to continue her efforts for the betterment of society.
The Chief Guest, MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar, praised the book and its author for bringing attention to a critical social issue. The Principal of Government Degree College Sopore, Bashir Ahmed Parray, who presided over the function, also commended the initiative, emphasizing the role of education in addressing substance abuse.
The event was anchored by R J Sahil, whose engaging presentation kept the audience captivated.
