Padgampora Awantipora residents reeling under darkness, allege locals

Pulwama: The residents of the Padgampora Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are relying under darkness as the electric transformer in the area has developed snag twice in last one week.
The residents of the area said that a 63 KVA transformer got damaged two days back plunging the whole area into darkness.
They said after intervention of DC Pulwama, a transformer from buffer stock was installed but it got damaged within hours after installing.
Syed Rashid, a local resident said that the transformer got damaged a week back but no steps were taken for four days for its repairs.
He said that after four days, they contacted Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and on his directions a transformer was installed in the area.
Rashid said that at a time when the government claims that they have been repairing transformers in 24 hours but here in Awantipora it has been taking more time than expected.
Mohammad Yaqoob, another local resident said that they have been continuously living in darkness for the past several days now and they have been waiting for the proper repair of the transformer.
He said that at a time when the government has been increasing tariff on a daily basis but they have failed to develop the infrastructure so that damaged transformers can be replaced within a day or two.
The locals have now sought the attention of concerned MLA and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
Meanwhile, an official of the concerned department said that the transformer is being repaired and will be reinstalled on Friday.
