Zadoo Kulgam residents demand availability of potable water

Kulgam: The residents of Zadoo area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are demanding availability of potable water in their area.
The residents of Zadoo Gujjar Basti in Damhal Hanjipora area said that the area has been craving for potable water for the last 12 years.
They said that despite the government claims of providing potable water to every household, the area has been neglected as of now.
Zameer Ahmad, a local resident said that the village is at a very high elevation and locals have no local source of water available for use.
He said that people are suffering in absence of any water facilities as they have no option other than to go very far away to fetch water for drinking and other purposes.
Basharat Ahmad, another local resident said they have been moving from pillar to post to get water supply but have failed so far in getting so.
He said that women folk of the area have been suffering more and in winter they suffer their lives turn miserable as the area records good amount of snowfall.
The locals said that they have brought the issue in notice of concerned authorities several times but nothing has been done so far.
They have now pinned their hopes on senior Minister Sakina Itoo who represents the area in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the locals said.
Meanwhile, when contacted an official of the PHE department said that they have been working to provide water facilities in the area and the area will get potable water by the end of this year.
