Shopian resident’s demand replacing of old damaged PHE pipes
Shopian: The residents of Bongam area of main town Shopian have demanded the replacing of old PHE pipes in the area, alleging leakages in old pipes.
The residents of the area said that they have been facing problems due to the damaged pipeline as water leaking out of the damaged pipelines is entering their lawns and even houses.
“The water oozing out of the pipes is entering residential houses and a Masjid in Mir Mohalla Bongam. This can lead to collapse of these structures any time,” said Gulzar Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that if any structure will get damages or any untoward incident will occur, the blame should be put on the Jal Shakti Department.
Aasif Ahmad, another local said that road is getting submerged in water due to leakage in the pipes making it difficult for the commuters to commute along the damaged stretch.
“Our elders told us that the water pipelines haven’t been replaced since the past 60 years,” he added.
The locals said that despite taking up the issue with the concerned authorities several times, their genuine demand is being ignored.
They said that in the last three years leakage has continued in the area but the department has failed in making any efforts in this regard.
The locals have now sought the attention of Deputy Commissioner Shopian in this regard.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department Shopian, Abdul Rashid when contacted told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that the department is going to start work on replacing pipelines very soon.
He said that the project to replace the pipeline in the area was approved recently.
