Awantipora, Tral residents complain erratic power supply

Pulwama: The residents of Awantipora and Tral hamlets of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have alleged that power development department is resorting to unscheduled power cuts in the area even though government hasn’t changed the power schedule yet.
Locals from these area said that though winter power schedule hasn’t been announced but the area is witnessing unscheduled power cuts since last two weeks.
They said that they are hardly getting power supply for a few hours since the last few weeks due to which they facing hardships as the winter season has already set in.
“Even though the government is claiming to be supplying 20 hour power supply to non-metered areas, but the claim falls flat for our area,” the locals alleged.
Sheikh Ishtiyaq Ahmad, a resident of Tral said that no scheduled is being followed and the local population is not getting power supply for more than six hours.
He said that government has hiked the power tariff several times in last few years but on ground there is unscheduled power supply that too in autumn.
“Unscheduled and frequent power cuts are persistent in the Awantipora area since last few weeks but nobody comes forward to take cognizance of the issue,” said Ashraf, another local resident.
Since September ending the power development department has failed to ensure proper power supply as per the curtailment schedule which affects the residents quite badly, he added.
Unscheduled power supply has affected the residents as well businessmen, students and even small unit holders, he added.
Locals from Awantipora and Tral said that they have taken up the issue with authorities who are assuring us of improvement in the power schedule, but on ground nothing happens.
The locals have now requested concerned higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
