Shopian residents demand widening of vital Shopian-Aglar road

Say Traffic jam in Turkwangam area on daily basis makes movement difficult
Shopian: The residents of different areas of south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded widening of Shopian-Aglar route on fast track basis.
The locals said that the narrowness of the road at most of the places often leads to traffic jams due to which locals have to face many difficulties.
They said that the government must take steps to widen this important road so that people’s suffering will come to an end.
Saif u din Bhat, a resident of Sugan said that the government has done a good job by maintaining this vital road but the road connects hundreds of villages with each other and has a heavy rush of traffic round the clock.
He said that the road needs immediate widening for all 22 kilometers from Aglar to Shopian as narrowness of this road often leads to accidents.
Zahoor Ahmad, a resident of Turkwangam said the road connects dozens of villages with SIDCO Lassipora near Turkwangam due to which there is more rush on this route.
He said that during harvest season people have been shifting their apple to cold storage units due to which there is more rush on the route especially in evening hours.
He said that it takes hours to reach SIDCO Lassipora from Turkwangam when the distance is just two kilometres but the road atTurkwangam-SIDCO is very narrow.
The narrowness of this vital road that is used by people of different districts to reach their destinations often leads to traffic jam and needs immediate attention of government, another resident added.
Meanwhile, the locals said that the narrowness of the road often leads to traffic jams on the route and the government must look into it to avoid traffic jams and accidents as well.
Despite bringing it in notice of higher ups several times , nothing has been done on ground, the locals said.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps for the widening of this road.
Meanwhile an official of R&B said that a proposal for the widening of this road is pending before the government but it hasn’t been approved yet.
