Pulwama residents demand shifting of dumping site from circular road

Pulwama: The dumping site along the circular road in the main town of Pulwama in this south Kashmir district continues to irk locals for the last several years and they continue to demand the shifting of the site since many years now, locals said Tuesday.
The residents of the area said that the municipal committee while collecting garbage from various areas of the town is throwing it on the circular road near Government Degree College for Women.
The garbage scattered at least at two sites along the circular road Pulwama continues to create a mess due to the foul smell coming from it.
They said that there are many patients who have no option other than to shift from the area due to bad smell coming from the sites.
Tufail Ahmad, a local teacher said that garbage is dumped near the college on a regular basis, due to which the residents, college-going students and commuters are facing a lot of inconvenience.
He said that the dumping site has made life of people living close to it hell as even in summer they are unable to open their windows and doors.
Rukhsana Akhter, a local woman said that the site has become a hub for stray dogs due to which they and their children are unable to move freely.
She said that many incidents of stray dog attacks have come to fore and despite that no attention is being given towards the issue.
Locals rued that despite having space available at many places, the authorities have chosen this point to dump the garbage, thereby creating problems for the residents.
They once again demanded that the government must take immediate steps to shift the dumping site as they feel that they cannot live here under such circumstances.
They said that they have been hearing for the past two years that the site will be shifted to another location but that hasn’t been done as of now.
They have once again sought the attention of Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
Meanwhile, an official said that solid waste management plant in Newa area is complete and the site will be shifted soon so that locals won’t suffer anymore.
