Aghanzpora Awantipora residents demand bridge over river Jhelum
Pulwama: The residents of the Aghanzpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded construction of a bridge over the river Jhelum that flows amidst the area.
The residents of Aghanzpora said that they have been demanding bridge over the river since decades but no attention is being given towards their demand.
Junaid Ahmad, a local resident said that they have been demanding a bridge over Jhelum at Aghanzpora near Ziyarat Shareef Awantipora but their demand is being ignored repeatedly.
He said that politicians often come here asking for votes but the genuine demands of the local residents are never met.
Arif Ahmad, another local said that they have been crossing the river Jhelum through boats to visit different places but that can prove fatal anytime.
He said that several drowning incidents have come to the fore in the area in the last few years and still their demand for construction of a bridge hasn’t been approved.
The locals said that successive governments have promised them that their demands would be met but so far it has proved a hoax on ground.
They said that despite bringing the issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times no action has been taken.
They have once again requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals won’t have to suffer anymore.
