NRLM helps Pampore girl to start readymade garment business
Pulwama: A 24 year old girl from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has started a readymade garment business with the help of NRLM in her locality.
Muskan Sharief Sofi (24) daughter of Sharef udin Sofi resident of Ladhoo Pampore after completing her BSC nursing has started a readymade garment business in her native village to earn her livelihood.
Talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’, Muskan said that she joined SHG in 2020 after she came to know about it through a few locals who were part of it before.
She said that there are so many benefits which one can get from SHG after joining it.
“I started my business in the year 2022 with the help of SHG as they gave me a loan of 2 lac rupees which helped me to stand on my own legs and to grow in my business,” she said.
She said that they also offer a variety of schemes for women and girls who otherwise sit in their homes and do not focus on their career.
She suggested that all the women and girls who are not able to stand on their own must join the SHGs which will help them to make a name for themselves.
“I have started a readymade garment shop in our locality on which I have been earning my livelihood very well and I am hopeful that it will help me to grow my business further,” she added.
Muskan said that joining an SHG is a better option for the women folk as they can continue their work at their home and start small units to become financially independent.
Self-Help Groups have proven to be an effective mechanism for poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment.
Through their collective strength, SHGs have provided access to finance, built livelihood opportunities, and fostered social inclusion for continued success of women.
