Police arrests drug peddlers in Anantnag, Pulwama and Awantipora
Srinagar: Police on Monday arrested several drug peddlers from south Kashmir and seized a substantial quantity of psychotropic/contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said.
He said that in a significant operation, a police team during naka at Bumzoo Mattan, intercepted an Innova vehicle bearing registration number JK02DK/9333 with three persons on board.
During searching of the vehicle, 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 80 Dolo-T tablets, 70 OMODOL tablets, good quantity of Beer and Alcohol and a cash amount of ₹11,500/- were recovered.
The three accused persons identified as as Lateef Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Qasim Shah resident of Mattan, Ayaz Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Amin Bhat resident of Seer Hamdan, and Rayees Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik resident of Sarnal Payeen, Anantnag have been arrested on the spot. The contraband along with the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
In another action, a police team at a checkpoint established near Wazir Bagh Park, Anantnag intercepted an auto bearing registration number JK01AK-7694. The auto, coming from Bangdar towards Mehandi Kadal was searched, leading to the recovery of a good amount of illicit liquor. The accused driver identified as Riyaz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Qadir Dar resident of Zadipora, Anantnag was arrested and the auto used in the commission of crime was also seized, the police spokesman said.
Moreover, a Police team during naka checking at Kudangan Marhama apprehended an individual identified as Noor Mohammad Ganie son of Abdul Rahim Ganie resident of Marhama, who was carrying a bag with a significant quantity of alcohol. The accused was arrested and the contraband was seized on the spot.
Police arrested a drug peddler in Pulwama and recovered contraband substance from his possession, the spokesman said adding that a police party at a checkpoint established at Circular Road Malikpora Crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK01N-4401.
During search, a polythene packet containing heroin was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Tantray son of Manzoor Ahmad Tantray resident of Kremshore Khansahib, presently residing at Check Puhroo Nowgam. During questioning, accused Fayaz failed to provide a valid explanation for possessing the contraband and was found to be involved in the illegal trade of heroin, selling the drug to local youth at exorbitant prices, thus contributing to drug addiction in the area. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, the spokesman added.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 187/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pulwama and investigation has been initiated, he said.
Police also arrested drug peddler in Awantipora and recovered contraband substance from his possession, the spokesman said.
He said that a police party during naka checking at Larkipora arrested one drug peddler identified as Ajaz Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah resident of Larkipora Awantipora. During checking, 21.4Kgs of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, a Case vide FIR Number 135/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
